課程概述

This course will introduce the life and works of Horace Walpole and the history of Strawberry Hill House. In Walpole’s lifetime, the architecture is at the same a glorious museum, a private press and a house for inhabitation, as well as one that inspired, produced and housed many literary texts while in turn influenced by them. In recent years, Strawberry Hill was restored to a public museum, though not to the full of its previous glory. To explore the rich complexity of Strawberry Hill, this course also includes a survey of related materials on the aesthetics of architecture.

This independent study course seeks to encourage the individual graduate student to pursue his or her own topic of study in preparation for the dissertation work.
